Tanique Somers

I was born in Jamaica W.I., raised in the Bronx, N.Y., and spent time in Polk County, Florida. I love reading, traveling, and learning languages. I fell in love with Spanish thanks to Dora the Explorer while living in Spanish town, St. Catherine (go figure!). I enjoy watching series and movies from various countries, picking up linguistic gems along the way, and trying out different cuisines. I hold a BA in Spanish for Translation & Interpretation from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, and an MA in Spanish: Language and Literature/Advanced Certificate in Caribbean and Latin American Studies from St. John's University in Queens, NY. My study abroad year at River Plate Adventist University in Entre Rios, Argentina was a transformative experience for my Spanish skills. I've worked in various roles, including Special Education Coordinator, Direct Support Professional, Language Tutor, and Case Manager for unaccompanied minors in the Human Services sector. I believe my life purpose is to advocate for the "least of these" in any way life takes me. Sharing my journey to healing through poetry and prose, I hope others will join me in the revolution of living life with love and hope.
